High-Performance Structure in Australia
Hockey is one of the most successful team sports in Australia. A major factor in the success of Australia’s Hockey team its high-performance structure consisting many programs in order to strengthen management structure, relationships with funding, expansion, culture and leadership styles. These programs are hosted by State Institutes and Academies of Sport, available in every state and territory of Australia (2).
National Programs
Hockey Australia has a centralised High-Performance Unit allowing training programs that supports the development and performance of the Australian hockey team to be run efficiently and effectively (2). Hockey Australia also runs scholarship programs to help supports up and coming elite athletes looking to reach the top of their game (2).
National Training Centres (NTC)
The NTC strengthens the action of the AIS to increase athlete involvement, with 12 coaches employed in the network to:
- To maintain and support high quality training and development.
- To develop the future nationally identified athletes.
