Performance Analysis

Alternative Performance Analysis

If you do not have access to any of the technology that is outlined above or you do not have enough funding to purchase the equipment needed then don’t worry there are other alternatives i’ll provide so you still may be able to use performance analysis as part of your program.

Every part of a high performance program started somewhere, whether it be strength and conditioning where it was a simple weights program to bulk up or running laps to stay fit, an ice bath protocol for recovery after training and matches or active stretches as part of a warm up.

Even sports performance analysis has its own roots that dates back to the mid nineteenth century and back then they didn’t have even a taste of the technology we have today. So you are able to perform even a basic analysis of a match or performance with a pen and paper or Microsoft excel on a computer that can still be really beneficial to a team or organisation. The old ways can still be used today in the right circumstances and if performed with the right amount of time. Yes it does take longer but you can still wield really powerful and advantageous results. You can start by setting up a basic camera (or phone) with a broadcast like view so the whole field can be filmed from the one camera angle, this will capture the video you need to edit or watch over to generate a list of statistics. You can then re-watch the video over and over, stopping and starting as you please to generate the data you need. You can implement this data into Microsoft excel on the computer so you can keep record of it or you can generate charts and graphs to try emulate the significance of the data. Now if you do not have access to a computer or camera use a pen and paper (the oldest way), pick a few key performance indicators (such as assists, passes, shots on goal) to keep track of and before the match starts get the team to choose goals that are achievable and measurable so you can track the performance of the team. If the team meets their goals then great, if they don’t then you know something the team can work on at practice.

These are just a few simple ways to performance a basic performance analysis that can still be very beneficial and advantageous.
